Meat: Fun skewers

I have recently been requested to put on my blog easy recipes to be eaten by kids or to be cooked by them. So here it is a first one, where you can get them involved and prepare them for life.  I have “tested” this recipe on my friends’ kids and in the picture you can see the results of their creativity.

Fun skewers

Ingredients:

  • 150g meat/person. I like to combine texture so I mix meat (in the photo chicken breast) with pieces of pork sausages
  • 50g veggies/person I like coloured peppers, shallots, cherry tomatoes, champignons
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 wooden skewers /person

Cooking time: under 30 mins

Preparation:  First things first: put the grill on to heat up by the time you finished the skewers.

You really need to present the ingredients in such a way that kids will want to play with you. I usually made separate bowls: one with cubes of peppers (red, yellow, green), one with shallots slices, one with sausage pieces, one with meat, … Just make sure their diameters/heights are pretty similar.

Cooking:

After you manage to convince the kids to wash their hands, the fun can begin. You can show them what to do by starting the first one. You have to be careful to remember who did what, because most of them will like to eat what they assembled.

I don’t like to put oil on the meat, but I use an oil spray for the grill. Put the skewers on the grill and cook for about 20-30 depending on how done you want the meat. Serve them with a simple seasonal salad.
