Beef: Late friday night sandwich

Most of my friends know that I don’t really like sandwiches (funny thing that I live in NL, ey? :)), but there are a few exceptions and one of them I learnt from the Naked Chef, Jamie Oliver many many years ago. It is very practical when you come back from a late night into town and you are starving. What better food to absorb the alcohol than a healthy and fast beef sandwich? I don’t drink so I usually do this for a weekend brunch, usually Sundays, especially if I have friends staying over the weekend 😉

  • 1 rib-eye steak
  • mustard like Dijon or Groninger or whatever you like (preferably spicy one)
  • 2-3 lettuce leaves
  • 1 ciabatta
  • salt&pepper

Cooking time: 2 mins to warm up the pan, 7-10 mins to prepare the meat and few mins to assemble the sandwich

Preparation: Wash the lettuce leaves.

First thing first, put the grill pan or your normal pan on the heat. If you don’t have a grill pan then use a normal pan and you can add a bit of oil. No butter please.  Cook the steak as you usually have it. I like mine medium and that is about 7-8 mins depending on how thick the steak is.  Very important is to season the meat after you took it off the pan. Slice the bread,  distribute the mustard in a thick layer and add the meat on top (you don’t need to rest it because when you will put it over the mustard it will absorb its flavour). Add the lettuce leave either on top or on the bottom and cover with the over slice of the bread. Easy isn’t it?

Enjoy and please let me know if you made it.
